Drama

“The play’s the thing…” Hamlet

Our annual drama production is the culmination of a classical education at Mission Valley Christian Academy. In the Grammar stage the students learn the structure and rhythm of language with memory. In the Dialectic stage they harness their natural aptitude for argument to cultivate logical analysis of the world around. In the Rhetoric stage they bring it all to the stage. “The play’s the thing” wherein they accomplish synthesis and polished presentation.

“The Poetic age is popularly known as the ‘difficult’ age. It is self centered; it yearns to express itself,” says Dorothy Sayers in her famous essay on classical education. At MVCA our goal is to give students the tools and then the opportunity to express themselves well. We ask our students in the “difficult” age to do something difficult and through the years they have faithfully exceeded all our expectations.

Each year God’ providence has blessed us with capable directors and tireless volunteers turning our drama production into a tradition of excellence. “The Play” has been a favorite time in the academic lives of our students and Play Week has become a home-coming weekend for many of our alumni.
